Library Cards and Related Information
Who can get a card?
Anyone living in Sunfield or the surrounding areas are welcome to get a card. We do not charge for our cards and would like to keep it that way.
Youth- Children between the ages of 7-18 may get a library card with the assistance of their parent or legal guardian. They must have their parent or legal guardian to sign for them at the time that they get their card.
Adults- Over the of 18, you do not need your parents to sign for you....
How to Get Your Card
To obtain a library card, please bring in a valid Michigan Driver's license or state ID withy your current address. When signing for your card, you are agreeing to the policies of the Sunfield District Library. You are also accepting the responsibility of returning or renewing materials in a timely manner and paying any late fines incurred (let's face it... we all forget or loose track of things from time to time.)
Borrowing Limits
The first four times- 2 items at a given time. This lets us get to know you and builds trust (we've had new patrons never return and neither did the items they checked out).
If there are no late returns, lost or damaged items, patrons will be considered to be in good standing. This status allows you to have up to 10 items checked out at a given time. Parents checking out items for their children and themselves are afforded a little leeway.
Placing Holds
We are happy to place holds on items for you. Holds do expire after a time and if that happens, we try to contact the patron to find out if they wish to renew the hold. Once items are ready for a patron, we make every attempt to contact them to let them know they can pick up their items. Patrons will have 10 days to pick the item up or it will be returned to the shelf or sent back to the lending library.
Renewing/Returning Your Borrowed Items
All books and books on tape have a 3 week check out. Magazines have a checkout period of 1 week. Patrons who may not be finished with their items may call to renew them over the phone if they can't make it in to the library. Due to the fact that there is a rental fee involved with the videos, we cannot renew them over the phone. All items, including the videos, can be placed in the drop box if you can't get to the library during our open hours.
Library Fines
Hopefully, you will not need this information, but.... life happens and sometimes things slip through the cracks.
